The Ravi Varma Press & the Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village at Manipal
The effort of Vijayanath Shenoy in transplanting dismantled homes and shrines led to the establishment of the Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village in Manipal. Over time the transposed buildings and collection of artefacts grew, leading to the opening of the space as a dedicated museum. The space now houses over 11 heritage structures, 8 traditional shrines, 3 museums and several shops.
In 2003-04, the remnants of the Ravi Varma Press was being disposed at Lonavala. At this time, Mr. Shenoy approached the owner of the Press and acquired the archival material which is now housed in a building within the museum. The museum is important for it is because of the Ravi Varma Press, the memory of Raja Ravi Varma stood immortalized in the minds of the common man.
